State of Observability 2026 — research frame
The transparent scope, questions, and evidence plan for Observaloka's first State of Observability report.
Read the page as a transparent path: establish context, inspect the evidence, then test the published stance.
Why publish the frame first?
Observability surveys often reach self-selecting technical communities or a vendor's customers. Those samples can still be useful, but they cannot silently stand in for the world. Publishing the questions, sampling plan, exclusions, and uncertainty before results makes later interpretation auditable. ISO 20252 provides recognized vocabulary and service requirements for market and social research [1].
Planned research questions
- Which telemetry signals and open standards are used in production?
- Who owns instrumentation, platforms, incident response, and cost?
- Which implementation problems recur across organization size and region?
- How do retention, cardinality, and data-residency requirements affect architecture?
Current evidence state
No adoption estimate is published here. Survey instrument design, sampling, regional coverage, response-quality checks, and weighting remain open work. Future editions will preserve this page, publish the dataset where consent and licensing permit, and include a changelog.
